The Black Warrior property is located south and east of Black Warrior peak, in Washoe and Churchill Counties, Nevada. The property covers 10 square miles (26 square km) and interconnects with four seperate power transmission lines across the region. The leases include surface and water rights.
The geology and regional fault structures at Black Warrior appear to permit deep circulating ground water to be heated by anomalously high rock formation temperatures and the project is estimated to produce 55 MW (50% probability), 126 MW (90% probability); GeothermEx Inc., California Energy Commission 2005*.
The next steps at Black Warrior are to proceed with delineation drilling and to drill a confirmation/discovery well to define a large resource.
Black Warrior geothermal project highlights are:
- Deepest test hole recorded a temperature of 262°F (128°C) at 1810 ft (552 m) with temperatures still increasing at the bottom of the hole
Highlights
- Immense heat anomaly over 10 sq miles (26 sq kilometres) defined by 20 gradient holes
- Black Warrior received a US$1.6M DOE Grant for innovative exploration and drilling
- Gradients suggest commercial resource temperatures may occur within 3280 ft (1000 m) of the surface
- Blind resource with a larger heat anomaly than Blue Mountain
- Estimated to produce 126 MW (50% probability), 55 MW (90% probability); GeothermEx Inc., California Energy Commission 2005*
* Ranges shown are based on 90% probability and 50% probability and have been adjusted to reflect a 20-year output
